We have found great airfare if we fly into Fort Myers. We would then have to drive to Orlando for Disney. But we will be spending the second half of our vacation on Sanibel Island, so it would be great as a departure airport.

You are watching: How far is fort myers from disney

How bad is the drive from Fort Myers to Orlando? Any thoughts?

We will be coming in September and flying in on a Wednesday morning arriving around 11:30.

It's about 175 miles so figure about 3 hours at least. I think I'd rather have the long drive at the beginning of my trip rather than at the end, so if the airfare is good, I'd go for it.

Its a great drive from Ft.Myers to Orlando, bit boring but direct. Arriving at 11.30-ish you'll have time to have lunch and rest before the drive. If you get on the I-75 it takes you straight up to Tampa, then filters onto the start of the I-4 and on to Orlando. It does take approx. 3 hours, and of course, you'll have to do the reverse journey for the second part of your hols, but you'll have beautiful Sanibel Island to chill out. We love Estero beach in Ft.Myers and have been to Sanibel for day trips.

If its a good price then go for it.

That's an awesome price. I'm happy to find O'Hare to anywhere in Florida for less than $200. You should probably jump on that : )

No contest.Go for it. Arriving mid morning you will be in Orlando before 3. You probably can check in around 4 so, with lunch, your timing is perfect.

The drive up is very straightforward.

Love the small airports. Fort Myers has none of the queues and crowds of Orlando

Its not a bad drive at all, should take you about3-3 1/2 hours. Depends on traffic. Factor in gas and tolls to see how much you're saving

I would say it will take you abt 3.5 hours (my house is just north of there) and is very straight forward, and if you are doing Sanibel as well it is a perfect idea.

You won't really have time for a park that day, but you'll get there around check in time, have a swim maybe and then you could hit DTD for fun and dinner.

Great Price, you are a clever one ;-)

There is a shorter quicker route and much nicer to drive but you guys seem to like the freeways with foot on the floor.

Casey101,

Actually there are a couple of routes that go through the center of the state that are shorter distance. However, they may not be shorter time.

When I have a chance to get out my map, I will give you the different routes. The question you need to ask is how much do you like highways where you set your cruise and go as opposed to how much you like driving through small towns and intersections.

The cruise and go option of I-75 to I-4 is about fifty miles longer distance and about a half hour shorter time.

Let me make a suggestion. The best air boat ride I have found is at Lake Trafford near Immokolee. Go there first. Then take 27 all the way to I-4.

One warning, though, I lost track at forty counting the traffic lights from Immokolee to I-4.
