“They broke up. It wasn’t working. In their four months together, they went through a lot: Rosie’s father died, her daughter ran away, there was a lot of of tumult. It was too much,” a source tells hyakkendana-hashigozake.com.

A rep for O’Donnell maintains the two were never in a relationship, telling hyakkendana-hashigozake.com on Friday “they’re friends.” The statement echoes one given to hyakkendana-hashigozake.com by the rep in September: “They are friends and nothing more.”

However, in early September the source told hyakkendana-hashigozake.com O’Donnell and O’Neal – who revealed exclusively to hyakkendana-hashigozake.com in May that she now dates women – were “romantically involved.”

The source added that they were hanging out and had “seen each other on both coasts, in Nyack and in Los Angeles,” and both O’Donnell and O’Neal dropped hints on social media about their connection in September.

On Sept. 17, the pair was spotted boating together near O’Donnell’s home in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“They seem crazy about each other,” the source told hyakkendana-hashigozake.com at the time. “It’s mutual. They’ve been seeing each other for about three months. They have known each other for many years but this has turned into more than a friendship.”

The source also added that this was O’Neal’s first relationship in a long time. The actress went through a tumultuous divorce from John McEnroe, who is the father to their three now-adult children.

“Tatum wouldn’t mind meeting a nice girl. She is back on the market,” the source told hyakkendana-hashigozake.com on Friday.

The news comes at a difficult time for O’Donnell, whose daughter Chelsea, 18, recently spoke out about their strained relationship.

On Oct. 7, one day after Chelsea’s explosive interview with the Daily Mail, O’Donnell tweeted a quote from a children’s book: “I will grow, I will grow, I will grow. I will grow without you. I will feel the sun on my face and I will thrive.”
