Been playing with this mod for a little bit, it"s pretty fun and immersive. First person horseback riding ftw... much more viceral combat sensation. Needs a few tweaks but this is one to watch!

This mod is hell on rangers like myself. Arrows don"t go to the crosshair anymore, and throws the bows with sights mods I like to use completey out of the picture. If not for that I"d use it myself.

You are watching: Joy of perspective vs immersive first person

I tried it and found that it removed more immersion than it added.

- When looking to the side, the character"s actual head clipped into view. (This was at the default FOV setting.)

- In the cut scene parts of "Unbound" the camera position was wrong most of the time. I was able to analyse Lokir"s skin pores while riding the cart, and the camera was pointed at the ground for much of the execution scene (including the bit where Alduin attacks).

However, I really do like the concept and if the mod author does release another version, I"ll definitely be trying it again.

You shouldn"t be using mods like this during the opening scene, until out of Helgen dungeon. In fact, it"s recommended not to use any game-changing mods during the intro, unless they absolutely have to already be installed when starting a new game (SkyRe is a good example). Texture packs etc. are ok, but game altering mods can definitely mess the intro scene!

Not all of them of course, for example STEP:Core mods were tested and are safe to use straight from the beginning.

New version of the mod has been released. I have not tried any version yet, but find it interesting.

Neo, I"ve tinkered with this one, but I"m just curious how you think this compares to Joy of Perspective which I have not tried.

Gopher has just featured this... I suspect seeing the Head Bob parameter to 0% will alleviate all the weird problems on the cart ride.

Maybe. I"m not a big fan of first person anyway.

What I think this mod misses is that even if people"s heads bob or move about during actions they undertake, our brains are actually pretty good at compensating for our own motion when they processing the signal from our eye, thus we don"t actually perceive the world as all jumpy when we move about.

The fact that our brains cannot do this nearly so well when watching a moving camera scene or when traveling in a vehicle is why people sometimes get nauseous from these viewing during activities - the disconnect between our eyes perceiving motion and our bodies not perceiving it causes this.

Yup, statmonster is right, although this mod will allow a remake of cloverfield in skyrim ;-)

Too bad the mod author says he"s not quite good at maths to implement any kind of image stabilisation. Perhaps someone could lend a hand?

I don"t think anybody out there could do the math for that one. Just turn off bobbing or throttle it down, that"s all the image stabilization you could achieve with all the math geeks together out there.

I wonder if there is a center of gravity position he could key off of rather than using the head position. There would be less motion from here. I don"t mind some bobbing when I"m running...just dont want it when I"m standing still.

If they were though would be designing killer robots for the Pentagon, not video games...

Same here. I played around with it quite a bit (with head bobbing set to 0 ) and while I like the idea of it, it just just didn"t add anything for me. Instead, I felt constantly reminded I was playing with that specific mod( e.g. when clipping or another glitch occured), thus breaking immersion.
