As you may have noticed in a lot of their songs, Tyler writes about the night as something to fear - as with him and many others, the night can enhance or create dark thoughts in one's mind and brings upon senses of loneliness and other depressive traits. One notable lyric from Semi-Automatic would be the second verse; "the horrors of the night melt away." "I will fear the night again" to me means in a shorter term - each day Tyler spends the daylight worrying about what will happen each night, or in the long term - he has passed a wave of depression or dark thoughts and feels happier, but he knows his battle is not over yet and that the night will be feared once more.

You are watching: I will fear the night again

Forgive me if my thoughts are a bit scattered, I did my best haha

So the entire Vessel album deals with themes of day and night. People have theorized that the album could just be showing how Tyler might feel on any given day. One of the main themes of the album is that in the daytime/good times our problems/demons seem distant and like they'll never come back, but in the nighttime or when anxiety hits etc, it seems like your problems will never end. Tyler is saying that even though things are good right now he knows he will fear the night again, but then encourages us to stay alive through those times.

Anyone who has had to deal with bad anxiety will tell you evenings/nights are the worse.

"I wake up fine and dandy but by the time I find it handy to rip my heart apart and planning my crash landing...."

Ode to sleep has similar lyrics about the night being feared.

-I'll stay awake -'Cause the dark's not taking prisoners tonight -Why am I not scared in the morning? -I don't hear those voices calling -I must have kicked them out -I must have kicked them out -I swear I heard demons yelling -Those crazy words they were spelling -They told me I was gone -They told me I was gone

Semi-automatic also seems to have this theme

-Night falls -With gravity -The earth turns -From sanity -Taking my only friend I know -He leaves a lot -His name is Hope -The horrors of the night melt away -Under the warm glow -Of survival of the day -Then we move on

-My shadow grows taller along with my fears -And my frame shrinks smaller as night grows near -When the sun is climbing Window sills -And the silver lining Rides the hills -I will be saved For one whole day -Until the sun makes the hills its grave

It seems like Tyler often times uses this theme to express how depression and anxiety can get worse at night when you are alone with your own thoughts, and you almost become a different person from who you are in the day time.
