Aside from picking between Normal or Hard, Casual or Classic difficulty, as well as which House you should teach to avoid being stuck with a bunch of dunces, another seemingly difficult decision in Fire Emblem Three Houses is whether you’re a Ghost, Demon, or Mortal. Below you’ll find a straightforward guide that explains if there are any ramifications for the choices that truly impact the narrative.
Fire Emblem Three Houses is one of the best received games of the year so far and it’s a Nintendo Switch exclusive that should have dozens of strangers hopping aboard the series’ bandwagon.
It has garnered fantastic reviews, it’s got over 200-hours worth of content if you choose to master the role of a Hogwarts-lite professor for all three houses, and – to be blunt – it’s just brilliant.
Whether you’re a diehard fan or a newcomer that has made the wisest decision of your life by choosing to experience what the hoopla for Fire Emblem is all about, allow me to walk you through the Ghost, Demon, or Mortal decision that must be made at the very beginning.

Fire Emblem Three Houses guide: Ghost, Demon, Mortal – which should you choose?
In what I always find to be very similar to the openings of Kingdom Hearts, Fire Emblem Three Houses asks you a bunch of questions at the very beginning of your journey.
The choice between a Ghost, Demon, or Mortal will understandably have series veterans and newcomers umming and ahing due to how the opening choices in past Fire Emblem games have had relevant repercussions.
Fire Emblem Three House‘s opening takes place in a dark void with an enigmatic girl whose green hair conveniently matches and suits her green eyes and pointy ears.
She is called Sothis, and she introduces herself by being that one friend who gets to know everyone by asking twenty questions.
One of these is as follows:
“I have not seen the likes of you before. Who are you, anyway?”
For this you can choose only one of the following responses:
I’m a ghost.
I’m a demon.
I’m a mortal.
Due to the answers being very vague and cryptic, it’s no surprise that newcomers and fans are pulling their hair out over how to respond.
Well, I’m sorry to report that you’ve been wasting your time with your anxiety as the decision doesn’t matter. It’s about as important as choosing what colour to dye your hair: red, red, or red.
So, yeah, that’s disappointing. But, on the bright side, at least your Birthday still matters… somewhat.

Fire Emblem Three Houses: Birthday
Once you’ve chosen to be a dude or a lass, Fire Emblem Three Houses will prompt you to assign a birthday.
This decision doesn’t impact stats like it did in past Fire Emblem instalments, but it does influence when you receive an accessory.
As soon as the in-game calendar lands on your assigned birthday, the leader of your chosen House will generously bestow upon you a present.

This present will be an item that provides a slight stat boost. In laymen terms, this basically means that eager beavers will want to set their birthday earlier rather than later to receive the goodie asap.
