FAMILY Feud host Steve Harvey is no stranger to on-screen gaffes, but he was left gobsmacked at one contestant’s bizarre answer.

You are watching: Family feud another way to say mother

Family Feud host Steve Harvey experienced a dumbfounding case of déjà vu when a contestant on the US game show inexplicably kept giving him the same answer.

When Sheila Patterson was asked, “What’s another way people say mother?” she answered, “Nana”, seconds after the family member standing next to her gave the same answer with a different pronunciation.

What was she thinking? ... Family Feud contestant Sheila clearly ran out of ideas. Picture: Family Feud

After Harvey politely explained that both answers are spelled the same way, she answered, “Mummy” — the same word given by her relative the round before.

“What about Mum-my?” she ventured next, putting the accent on the later syllable.

Harvey, not believing what he was hearing, went over to riff with the studio audience, giving Patterson some more time to think.

When he asked again — and she again answered “Nana” — he nearly lost it.

“This s**t can’t be happening,” he said.

He told the studio audience the segment will surely be cut down for when the episode airs, but you can watch all eight excruciating minutes in the clip.
