I recently had a surprise delivery to my door that turned out to be the Charlotte Tilbury World Of Legendary Parties Christmas Advent calendar. I was so thrilled that I actually screamed out loud upon opening the mystery package! I’ll be talking more about this in a later post so I’ll keep that under wraps for now.

Anyway, included in my delivery box was a sample size of Charlotte’s new scent – The Scent Of A Dream. I was so excited to try it out – as you’ll know if you’re aware of Charlotte Tilbury and her makeup brand, the whole collection absolutely oozes class and sophistication just like Charlotte, so I had such high hopes for what her first scent would be like.

The scent is described as a “first-of-its-kind ‘floral chypre’ perfume harmony that features a blend of confidence boosting Joy top notes, intoxicating Fleurotic heart notes and pheromone base notes. The mind-altering ‘fleurotic frequenct’ creates and emotional pathway to the body’s energy centres igniting and attracting love, light, power, positivity and sex to the wearer.” (CharlotteTilbury.com) Now this is something I really love about Charlotte and her brand – she not only describes her products perfectly imaginatively, but she actually sells a lifestyle rather than just a scent, implying that this is the kind of person you’ll be and the type of lovely things you’ll attract if you buy into the products. I think her marketing is extremely clever and it’s something that draws me into the brand even further. Speaking of marketing, take a look at the beautiful advert campaign with none other than Kate Moss in Charlotte’s video below.

So, back to the actual perfume. Upon spritzing the scent, I first got a note of Rose followed by a slightly warming, floral fragrance that lingered ever so softly in the air. It’s always quite hard to describe a fragrance, so imagine this if you will – the scent makes me think of Selfridges in its original era, of famous Hollywood starlets, of a sweet-smelling vintage rose garden in the height of summer. It embodies sophistication, wealth and just a hint of Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Joy top notesPositivity: Fresh and invigorating, this confidence-boosting aura develops over 15 minutes and includes: Lemon, Peach, Black Pepper, Saffron, Mandarin, Bergamot.

Fleurotic heart notesLove & Light: Intoxicating floral extracts trigger desire and resonate over 5 hours, they include: Tuberose, Jasmine, Frankincense, Hedione, Violet, Muguet, Orange Flower, Rose Oil, Tea Rose, Green Ivy and Magnolia.

Psychoactive base notesPower & Sex: The ‘pheromone’ notes are activated by body heat, lasting up to 9 hours and include Fire Tree, ISO E Super, Patchouli and Ambroxan.

It’s quite a mature scent – definitely not a teenage affair, but a little more demure and refined. It’s the perfect scent for a decadent date and the party season. The scent feels quite heavy yet fresh in one – it truly is a harmony of intoxicating notes that are so addictive that you just can’t help inhaling deeply to savour the aroma. My only bugbear is that I can’t seem to smell this perfume on myself after around an hour or so, but I’m assured that it’s still lingering in the air by everybody I’ve asked so far. It’s an absolutely beautiful perfume and a fabulous debut for the Charlotte Tilbury collection.
